The most recent edition of the Montreal Independent Film Festival's annual screening took place at the Cinema du Parc in Montreal on September 22nd, 2024. The festival showcased a variety of international and Canadian films across genres such as animation, experimental, documentary, and narrative.
The festival has consistently highlighted and presented numerous artists from Canada and beyond, attracting large audiences to sold-out events and digital platforms. Winners of the seasonal festival are included in the annual cinema screening programming. Esteemed individuals such as Cannes award winners and Oscar nominees have participated alongside emerging independent artists in the festival's various sections.
Each year, the programming committee sifts through thousands of entries to select film and script projects, nominating artists for different competition categories. These categories encompass awards and honorable mentions in areas like acting, directing, cinematography, screenwriting, editing, music video, experimental cinema, animation, student film, and more.
Through MIFF magazine and channel, the festival offers free daily, hourly, and weekly screenings and promotions of independent features, shorts, and screenwriters to all official selections and nominees. The primary goal is to support independent films and indie artists across a wide range of genres, providing them with exposure and recognition in the film industry.
Furthermore, the festival continues to appoint jury members for different festival sections in each edition, welcoming filmmakers, critics, actors, writers, composers, cinematographers, as well as agents and distributors from around the globe.
As an organization, the festival team is dedicated to the selection, recognition, promotion, and screening of international and Canadian projects spanning all genres.
